Since July of 1973, a small Church, known as Maranatha, has been serving the community of Carrefour Labranle, a rural community located at about 18 km North of Gonaives, in Haiti.
Jean Robert Derisse, a young pastor at the time, arrived in the area and was immediately and deeply touched by the extreme poverty and difficult circumstances. In addition to the heartbreaking poverty, he discovered that many adults were unable to read or write, provide food for their hungry children, and even send them to school. He started to serve with strong compassion and unwavering passion. He was committed to making a difference in the lives of these people and made it his mission to give them hope.
